WASHINGTON, DC- Earlier today, the Student PIRGs released a new report investigating high textbook prices for common courses at schools across the country. Entitled Open 101: an Action Plan for Affordable Textbooks, the report contains recommendations that, if enacted, could save students billions of dollars.

Whether it’s your first semester or your last, you have probably been approached at least once by the on-campus environmental group CalPIRG. Perhaps you’ve accumulated a ton of their flyers and emails by now — maybe even texts. Perchance you’ve heard about their campaign, called Berkeley Go Solar! If you don’t know too much about it yet, now is your chance to learn.
Fewer students than usual could be found Monday on Sproul Plaza due to the weather, but some braved the rain for a final push to register students to vote, with hours remaining before the deadline. Many student groups have launched initiatives to increase student voter registration in time for the upcoming midterm elections Nov. 4. Students from the campus voters coalition, which includes representatives from the ASUC and CALPIRG, worked on the New Voters Project.
Before entering the classroom of an intro-level economics course, students get a real-life experience with the subject — the required textbook costs $290 on Amazon.
As Election Day approaches on Nov. 4, Measure P seeks to initiate a moratorium on the practice of “high-intensity petroleum operations” that include acid-well treatments, steam injection and hydraulic fracturing, otherwise known as fracking.
